SOCIAL SPY** Chicks at The Flicks Magic Mike Screening

Like any red blooded woman, I was most excited to see Magic Mike, the latest Steven Soderbergh film, hit the cinemas last week.

I, along with Sydney Social 101 Editor, Lisa, was lucky enough to score a ticket to see the film at Event Cinema, Bondi Junction, as part of their Chicks at The Flicks night.

Now I could go on about the gloriousness of the lead men, Alex Pettyfer and Channing Tatum, but the film was surprisingly more than just a gratuitous look at the male body. Soderbergh attempts to take you deeper into the seedier side of male stripping (apparently it’s not all baby oil and handcuffs – who knew?!) by throwing in some drugs and relationship stuff.

All in all in not a bad film and I didn’t even have a sneaky look at my watch to check the time once, but the film wasn’t the only reason Lisa and I had such a fun night.

Chicks at The Flicks is Event Cinemas latest event night, where each month, a  “chick flick” will be screened exclusively before general release to an audience of (mainly) women. “Big deal” I hear you cry, but the beauty of the night is that not only do you get to see the film before anyone else, you get treated like a VIP for the night. It’s a bit like being at a real film premiere, just minus the celebs. There’s even a photographer on hand to snap your red-carpet moment. You can download your photo via the Event Cinemas Facebook page too.

For just $24 you get access to a private bar, nibbles galore (at Magic Mike they were suitable served by topless male stripper-types), a mini ice-cream to enjoy inside the cinema and a goodie bag stuffed full of, well, goodies! In fact, the goodie bag was better than most events I’ve been to.

There are also two other ticket types; $26 gets you the same but in VMax, and if you’re feeling flash, $65 will get you the Gold Class package which includes a glass of bubbles on arrival and lots of cheese and chocolate.

Chicks at The Flicks is definitely a fun girls night out, especially if you enjoy going to the cinema despite the draw of a goodie bag and free food.

The next event is on Wednesday August 8 and the film is The Sapphires, which I personally can’t wait to see. Check out the trailer here:
